Fine 19th Century French Paisley Shawl
This 68 inch square French wool Paisley shawl is a lovely older piece from 1860 to 1880. It is a very elegant design making use of six different yarn colors: black, white, gold, blue, red and green, indicating very fine quality. The weave is very fine and there is much detail within the design. It has a large black center. The condition of the patterned weave is excellent, with much of the fringe intact and only a small 1/4 inch tear along one of the selvages, shown in the photo above,, and some missing fringe. The black center, has some discoloration in the middle and there are a few small holes, the largest of which is 1/4 inch in diameter and is shown in the photo with a penny above.
