19th Century Ottoman Embroidered Turkish Towel
This is one Turkish towel in a collection of four items acquired from a well-known midwestern collector of fine quality antiques. Each towel has a unique embroidered design on a hand-woven towel made from natural handspun linen with embroidered patterning at each end of the towel. The color palette on all the towels is of muted tints with gold threads used as accents to add richness and sparkle to the design. The designs are done in a variety of embroidery techniques. All are made from handspun natural linen yarn and are hand-woven and hand-embroidered. Hems are hand stitched. These towels have a wonderful old patina and are in excellent condition considering their age. This one is has a charming little house motif with the Tree of Life. Of the four towels, this one is the finest weave and quality. It appears to have been hardly used and is in near perfect condition. This collection of textiles was featured on the Home and Garden Antiques Show on cable T.V., where the owner of Golden Thread Antiques was interviewed about her collection of textiles shown at the Star of the North Antiques Show in Minneapolis. Size is 17 1/2" by 36 1/2 inches . Click on 'textiles' in the navigation bar to see the rest of this fine collection. Item #: text011 SOLD |
