This all wool jacquard woven shawl appears to be from the early 20th C. The size is 60 inches long by 9 inches wide with a 1 inch fringe. The selvages are cut indicating that multiple widths of the scarves were woven together then cut apart. The selvages are not hemed but rather the selvage warps are closely sett to add strength to the edges and keep them from unraveling. The weft floats on the back are trimmed to reduce the weight of the fabric so the scarf has a nice soft drape. The mirrored designs on the other end of the scarf are very intricate, and the color palette consiste of 6 colors on a red ground. The decorative borders along the selvages are actually created by warp brocading. The condition is very good. There is a small 1/4" hole at the corner of one end, a 2 " narrow dark stain radiating out of the top of one of the designs and so blends in, and there are a few pinholes in the red that are only visible when held up to against the light.
