19th C. Chinese Silk Embroidered Robe Fragment
Aesthetically the finest piece from this collection. The colors are beautifully delicate and harmoniously balanced. There are several unique qualities about this piece. The first is the fruit motif in the center. These are rare and considered to be very auspicious symbols. This grouping of fruits is entirely filled in with the forbidden stitch in a gradations of pink and rose. The other thing that sets this piece apart is that the fabric used to frame the fragment is of the same time period or perhaps slightly later, and is also entirely hand embroidered, most likely also salvaged from an old robe. Dimensions are: 12 3/8" x 24 7/8". Condition is excellent.
